Remembering is not enough
You'll see a lot of "never forget" posts today, and rightfully so.
The attacks of September 11, 2001 took the lives 2,977 people. They reminded us of the importance of remaining vigilant and staying alert, guarding against the unknown.
The ability to remember the tragedy might come easier for those of us who served in uniform on that day. But, with today marking the 23rd anniversary of the attacks, realize the young people who join the military today were not alive when the attack occurred. Their only reference to September 11 might come from the stories of those who lived it, or the occasional social media post.
We can honor the lives of those lost on that day by sharing our stories. Remembering is not enough ... We must share our experiences with the next generation.
